Gloucester Cathedral Organ Festival: Gala Concert

At the heart of Gloucester Cathedral's Organ Festival weekend is the landmark gala performance with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by Adrian Partington, Director of Music at Gloucester Cathedral, and featuring internationally acclaimed organist Thomas Trotter.

From the brilliance of Gigout to the grandeur of Saint-Saëns’ “Organ Symphony”, this is orchestral and organ music at its most thrilling — a fitting showcase for a magnificent new instrument.

BBC National Orchestra of Wales

For over 90 years, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the only professional symphony orchestra in Wales, has played an integral part in the cultural landscape of the country, occupying a distinctive role as both a broadcast and national orchestra, and serving as an ambassador of Welsh culture, regularly performing music created in Wales and championing Welsh composers and artists.

Thomas Trotter

Awarded The Queen’s Medal for Music, Thomas Trotter is recognised as one of the world’s leading organists. A former organ scholar at King’s College, Cambridge, and City Organist of Birmingham for over four decades, he has performed with the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonics, appeared at the BBC Proms, and played in many of the world’s great concert halls. Celebrated for his musical partnerships and commanding artistry, he brings international distinction to this festival moment.

  • Parking

    We are sorry that due to limited space, parking in the Cathedral Close is restricted to pass holders only.

    There are eight disabled parking spaces which are for use by Blue Badge holders on a first come first served basis.

    However, there are several public car parks within easy walking distance of the Cathedral.

  • Arriving by Public Transport

    The Cathedral is located in Gloucester Town Centre, so the best way to get here is by public transport.

    We are a 10-15 minute walk from both the train and bus stations. You can also use Gloucester’s Park and Ride.

    Cycling is a great way to get around Gloucester - the city is easy to explore on two wheels.
