Volunteering is a rewarding and enjoyable way to meet interesting people, face new challenges, gain confidence and learn new skills.
Without the support of hundreds of volunteers, the Cathedral simply couldn't function and we wouldn't be able to provide a first class experience to the thousands of visitors who pass through the door each year.
We welcome new volunteers from all walks of life, regardless of background or beliefs, and offer dedicated training and support.
There are a wide variety of volunteering opportunities available at the Cathedral. Roles include:

From school tours in term time to family activities in the holidays, there is plenty to get involved with as a Learning Volunteer. Lead groups of school children on a tour of the Cathedral or get creative by helping with craft activities.
Commitment: Ad hoc all year round.

Lead groups of visitors on tours to the top of the Cathedral Tower which include behind the scenes access to ancient roof spaces, the medieval bell chamber and spectacular views across the city and countryside.
If public speaking isn’t your thing, each tour also requires a second volunteer to assist with the comfort and safety of the group. Volunteers need to be able to climb the 269 steps to the top (and back!).
Commitment: All year round with the summer months being the busiest.

Welcome visitors to the The Tribune Gallery, an interactive exhibition space high above the Quire where both children and adults can explore the past and present. Volunteers must be able to climb up 40 stone steps.
Commitment: Morning or afternoon shifts available all year round. Minimum requirement of one shift per month.

A team of dedicated volunteers serve a cooked breakfast to the homeless and vulnerable every Thursday and Saturday mornings at the Cathedral. Volunteers are required to help serve the breakfast and clear away afterwards.
Commitment: All year round 8am-9am, Thursday and Saturday mornings on a rota basis. Minimum requirement of one session per month.
