Visiting Choirs regularly perform at services when the Cathedral choirs are on leave during the school holidays.
This provides a wonderful opportunity for choirs from around the country and beyond to experience the thrill of singing and leading worship in our magnificent Cathedral. It also gives congregations and visitors the chance to hear a broader range of singing.

The Abermore Singers is a chamber choir of some 30 singers, formed from several choirs whose members are drawn from West Wales and South Shropshire. The singers rehearse in the two locations and come together for concerts, cathedral visits and an annual tour to Europe each August. They will sing in Budapest, Hungary this year. Last year the Choir sang at Worcester Cathedral and performed two concerts in Riga, Latvia. The photo above is in the wonderful St Peter’s Church in Riga, where the choir gave a concert in August 2025. Previous tours have been to Prague (2018), Berlin (2019), St Andrews, Scotland (2022), Paris (2023) and Krakow (2024)
The repertoire of the Abermore Singers is mainly sacred and includes a wide variety of music, especially by Renaissance composers, and late19th/20th century composers including Bruckner, Grieg, C.V. Stanford, Murrill and Wood.
The group is directed by Alistair Auld, an experienced choral conductor and organist who began his music career at Strathallan School, Scotland, later moving to Kent as Director Music at The Duke of York’s School, Kent. He spent nine years living and working in the Middle East as a conductor and teacher.
The singers are very enthusiastic about their forthcoming visit to Gloucester Cathedral to sing Evensong.
