Conducted by the Cathedral’s Director of Music, Gloucester Choral Society is a first-rate, established, amateur choir with a rich history, based at Gloucester Cathedral.
Dedicated to presenting an interesting, varied and challenging programme of concerts each season, they pride themselves on the quality of the performances they give and the wonderful professional musicians they are able to work alongside, which has recently included the Philharmonia Orchestra, under Esa-Pekka Salonen.
Rehearsals take place in the Cathedral’s historic Chapter House and in the Cathedral itself on Monday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
Further InformationConducted by Jonathan Hope, the Cathedral’s Assistant Director of Music, the Saint Cecilia Singers are a choir of about thirty men and women, from a wide range of backgrounds and experience. They perform up to eight concerts a year, frequently in the Cathedral, but often in other venues around the Diocese.
Their repertoire includes unaccompanied choral music from the Renaissance to the present day. They sing evensongs and other sung services, not just at Gloucester Cathedral but have been on visits to Bath Abbey, Durham Cathedral and Westminster Abbey in recent years. Once a year, they sing orchestral concerts too, one recent highlight being a stunning performance under Stephen Layton as part of the 2014 Cheltenham Festival.
Further InformationThe Cathedral and the NHS Trust established a joint venture Community Choir in April 2013.
The choir sings in the Cathedral twice a year and at Trust staff events and to patients on hospital wards. The choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings during school term time between 7.30pm to 9.00pm in the Chapter House of the Cathedral.
The Choir is open to Employees of the Trust and their partners, Employees of the Cathedral and their partners, and Members of the Cathedral congregation.
