Cathedral Music

A place for music

At the heart of worship

Music has been at the heart of Gloucester Cathedral’s worship for almost 1,000 years and we offer the very best we can to the glory of God. Music has the ability to transform and connect people through prayer and praise and we strive to promote a greater appreciation of its value by bringing people together to share in stimulating musical experiences.

Music is integral to our daily worship with Choral Evensong being sung by either the Cathedral Choir or the Cathedral Youth Choir every day during school term time, and occasionally by visiting choirs during school holidays.

Our famous organ

Gloucester Cathedral Organ

One of the most signficant cathedral organs in the world

Gloucester Cathedral’s mighty organ, which was originally constructed in 1666 by Thomas Harris and is the only complete 17th century cathedral organ case surviving in this country, is currently undergoing refurbishment and renewal.

The In Tune organ and music campaign aims to raise £3 million by 2026 to fund this, as well as revitalise the musical education that is offered to hundreds of musicians of all ages. You can find out more, including how to donate to the campaign, via the button below.
