CANCELLED: The Gloucester Pilgrimage

CANCELLED: Saturday 10 September

Tewkesbury Abbey to Gloucester Cathedral

Following the death of Her Majesty The Queen, this year's Pilgrimage will not be going ahead. Thank you for your understanding.

For centuries, Pilgrimage has played a central part in Christian spirituality and today it is embraced across different religious traditions and faiths. Pilgrimages are typically made to a significant holy place with the intention of encountering God in new ways, but they are also an opportunity to meet like-minded people and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding countryside as part of the journey.

On Saturday 10 September the second annual organised Gloucester Pilgrimage will take place, with the route stretching from Tewkesbury Abbey to Gloucester Cathedral, and all are warmly invited to join us. Starting at Tewkesbury Abbey at 8am with prayers at 8.20am, it will end at the Cathedral in time for a special Evensong at 4.30pm. Prayers will be offered at five churches along the route, and at various points there will also be the opportunity to listen to the choir Coro Camino.

Whether you’re a regular pilgrim or have never taken part in a pilgrimage before, and whether you are of faith or not, all walkers are welcome to take part. This will be a chance for spiritual prayer and reflection in our busy world, as well as a great way of boosting mental and physical wellbeing. The route asks for reasonable fitness, but Pilgrims can opt to join at one of 3 points along the route – Tewkesbury Abbey (15 miles), St Michael’s Tirley (9 miles), St Andrew’s Ashleworth (6 miles) or St Giles Maisemore (3 miles).

An eBook about the Gloucester Pilgrimage can be downloaded by clicking on the button below, which will tell you a little bit more about the route – please note that this is still a draft, and Pilgrims will be sent a final version once they have signed up.
