Art and Architecture

Gloucester CathedralThe Cathedral is a rich resource for the study of architecture, from Romanesque to Perpendicular.

Admire the finest example of medieval cloisters in the country, with the earliest and most ornate remaining fan vaulting. Consider the materials and techniques used in construction, from crypt to tower. Appreciate the contributions of artists and craftsmen over the 900 years of the Cathedral's history.

Tours can include an opportunity to come face to face with the Great East Window in the Tribune Gallery and discover how medieval glass was made, or a visit to the stonemasons’ yard to see the modern day artisans at work.  A visit to the crypt can also be included in this experience.
