Friday 2 August - Thursday 29 August, Cathedral opening hours
Follow in the footsteps of medieval pilgrims and join a 1,000 year-long tradition...
The Labyrinth is returning to Gloucester Cathedral this summer, and you’re invited to walk it. It will be in the Nave for you to explore for as long or as little as you like during normal Cathedral opening hours.
A Labyrinth is a winding path used for meditation and prayer. Pilgrims have been walking Labyrinths for thousands of years; this symbolic journey represents the path to God, enlightenment or your deepest self. It enables us, in the midst of the busyness of life, to be still and focus our thoughts and feelings. The Labyrinth at Gloucester Cathedral is an exact replica of the one in Chartres Cathedral in France, which is thought to date from around 1200.
The Labyrinth is free to take part in, with no tickets required, but donations to the Cathedral are welcome. As you walk it, try to let go of your fears, worries and concerns, and you may wish to take time to pray or reflect once you reach the centre.
