The King’s Men of Cambridge Live in Concert

Expect a brilliant evening of music in the surroundings of Gloucester Cathedral’s magnificent Chapter House hosted by Cambridge University’s The King’s Men.

Formed of the Choral Scholars of the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge, the programme for the concert is an exciting mix of genres, from Byrd to the Beatles. The first half showcases sacred polyphony, madrigals, and folk songs, with the second half exploring blues, jazz and pop genres.

The King’s Men has always had a place in the heart of King’s College, Cambridge since its foundation in 1441. In its founding charter, King Henry VI mandated a choir to be formed of 16 "poor and needy" choristers and six "singing men". The King's Men, in all its iterations, is as established as the choir itself. The ‘Singing Men of King’s College, Cambridge’ have provided sacred and secular services for over half a millennium, and were even retained during the Interregnum, wherein they likely sang for secular events until the restoration of the monarchy in 1660. The men are proud to be part of such a vibrant musical and historic legacy, joining alumni such as Christopher Tye (1505-1573), Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625), Bob Chilcott (b. 1955) and the founding members of The King’s Singers (1968).

  • Parking

    We are sorry that due to limited space, parking in the Cathedral Close is restricted to pass holders only.

    There are eight disabled parking spaces which are for use by Blue Badge holders on a first come first served basis.

    However, there are several public car parks within easy walking distance of the Cathedral.

  • Arriving by Public Transport

    The Cathedral is located in Gloucester Town Centre, so the best way to get here is by public transport.

    We are a 10-15 minute walk from both the train and bus stations. You can also use Gloucester’s Park and Ride.
