Organ Scholar

An exciting chance to join the talented Music Team at Gloucester Cathedral

Full time
Salary £6,000 per annum, accommodation provided

We are excited to be able to announce our next Organ Scholarship for September 2026/2027 academic year running from 1st September 2026 to the 31st August 2027.

Music has been at the heart of Gloucester Cathedral’s worship for almost 1,000 years and we offer the very best music we can to the glory of God. Music has the ability to transform and connect people through prayer and praise; and we strive to promote a greater appreciation of its value by bringing people together to share in stimulating musical experiences. Music is integral to our daily worship with Choral Evensong being sung by either the Cathedral Choir or the Cathedral’s Trinity Singers or St.Benedict’s Singers every day during school term time, and occasionally by visiting choirs during school holidays.

The Organ Scholar can expect to be fully immersed within all of the activities of our talented Music Department, this includes not only playing the organ but working with our choirs and assisting with the Music Department administration.

The Organ Scholar will enjoy playing for Evensong every Thursday and other weekdays as required. The Organ Scholar will also get the opportunity to play for many of the special services which take place in the Cathedral each year.

The successful candidate will have the opportunities to assist in the training of all the Cathedral’s choirs; conducting, accompanying and rehearsing as required.

The Organ Scholar will be provided with furnished accommodation within the Cathedral grounds and a stipend of £6,000 per annum.
