Our visit to Berkeley will begin with a guided tour of the castle, including the Chapel of St. John, where the body of the murdered King Edward II rested in 1327 before his burial in Gloucester Cathedral.

After refreshments, we will be escorted to St Mary’s church, where we will have a guided tour of the building with its detached bell-tower, medieval wall paintings, and memorials to the Berkeley family.

A light lunch will be available at your leisure in the castle refectory.

Following lunch, we will assemble at the nearby Dr Jenner’s House, museum and garden. Dr Jenner, whose statue can be seen at the West End of the Cathedral, lived here and became famous as a physician, surgeon and pioneer of smallpox vaccination.

Please note that we will use our own transport to get to Berkeley (GL13 9BQ).
