Access Most Areas

Saturday 22 October, Friday 28 October and Saturday 29 October, 6.30pm-9.30pm (last entry at 8.45pm)

Have you ever wondered what’s behind the many ancient, closed doors and gates in Gloucester Cathedral? Well now is your chance to find out with exclusive behind the scenes access to hidden spaces and features not usually open to visitors.

Experience your Cathedral bathed in candlelight as you explore secret spaces of this spectacular building, as you never have before! Climb up to the 17th century organ loft or take a peek behind the scenes in the Song School. Marvel at medieval paintings in the Vestry or see the rooms where Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn stayed in their royal progress of 1535. Explore the Crypt by candlelight or walk through the very door that served as the entrance to Gryffindor Common Room in the Harry Potter films. Book your ticket below to unlock the secrets of all these hidden spaces and more. Tickets cost £7.50 for adults and £3 for children.

There is also the option to purchase a ‘VIP’ ticket which includes a 55-minute tour of the Cathedral Tower and the unforgettable experience of looking out over the city at night; this costs £20 for adults and £8 for children. Alternatively, there is the option to purchase a ‘VIP ticket’ with access to the medieval Cathedral Library, where visitors will be able to listen to beautiful, immersive music. This costs £10 for adults and £4 for children.

To allow as many visitors as possible to enjoy these experiences, it is not possible to purchase a ticket that includes both the library and the tower. VIP tickets include access to all the spaces included in a general entry ticket - you do not need to purchase a separate general entry timeslot if you have purchased a VIP ticket. A ticket for general entry does not include access to the library or tower.

Please note that in the event of poor weather, the Tower Tour may need to be cancelled but the main 'Access Most Areas' event will still go ahead. In this instance, you will be refunded the difference between the ticket prices.

The Monk’s Kitchen eatery will be open for tasty drinks and snacks throughout the evening and don’t forget to visit the Cathedral Gift Shop for the perfect memento of the evening - or to make a start on your Christmas shopping!

Unfortunately, most of the spaces opened for this event do not have level access. For detailed access information, please email visits@gloucestercathedral.org.uk
