From Cathedral Chorister to Elite Soldier: Ash Alexander-Cooper OBE shares lessons in resilience
Gloucester Cathedral will welcome former Army officer, international athlete and author Ash Alexander-Cooper OBE for a fireside chat on Thursday 24 April, exploring resilience, leadership and overcoming life’s challenges. The evening will offer an opportunity to hear Ash reflect on his remarkable journey, from chorister at Winchester Cathedral to Gurkha officer and Army helicopter pilot, and later a specialist in jungle warfare and counter-terrorism operations.
Ash spent seven years deployed in some of the world’s most demanding environments and was wounded several times during his service. Since retiring from the military, he has dedicated much of his work to helping others develop resilience and leadership skills, becoming an international keynote speaker and strategic adviser.
The event will centre on the themes explored in Ash’s book Mindful Soldier: Building Resilience to Overcome Life’s Challenges, focusing on how individuals can navigate pressure, uncertainty and adversity in their own lives.
Rebecca Lloyd, Canon Chancellor and Director of Learning and Participation at Gloucester Cathedral said:
“We are delighted to be welcoming Ash to the Cathedral for what promises to be a fascinating and thought-provoking evening.
“At Gloucester Cathedral we support wellbeing and personal growth in many different ways, through faith and spirituality, through music and learning, and by providing space for reflection. Ash’s story offers powerful insights into resilience, purpose and leadership that we believe will resonate with many people.”
Ash Alexander-Cooper OBE said:
“Every one of us faces challenges in life. Learning how to respond with resilience can make a real difference. I hope this evening will encourage people to reflect on their own experiences and leave feeling inspired to find strength, motivation and courage for the challenges ahead.”
Proceeds from ticket sales will support Gloucester Cathedral’s In Tune Music and Organ campaign, helping to enhance the Cathedral’s music and learning initiatives. All author profits from Ash’s global book sales are donated to the Gurkha Welfare Trust and the Royal British Veterans Enterprise.
The event will take place on Thursday 24 April at Gloucester Cathedral and begins at 7.30pm.
Tickets are available via the Gloucester Cathedral website, with general entry starting at £12.
