Apprentice Stonemason

Complete your apprenticeship in the field of Heritage Masonry and Conservation

Full Time - 39 hours per week
Fixed Term until August 2025
£21,003 per annum for Level 3 Qualified candidate

Gloucester Cathedral is looking for a passionate and committed individual who is seeking to complete their apprenticeship in the field of Heritage Masonry and Conservation.

This fixed term contract is for those who have completed NVQ3 Stonemasonry or an equivalent Level 3 Diploma and who wish to benefit from a year work experience at Gloucester Cathedral, prior to applying to undertake the Cathedrals’ Workshop Fellowship Foundation degree (Levels 4 and 5) on a two-year contract starting in September 2025.

The successful applicant will join the Gloucester Cathedral Workshop as full-time members of our outstanding Stonemason Team and will be invited to apply to undertake the two-year foundation degree as a member of our team.

The role will include:

  • Assisting in carrying out both general maintenance and specific project work on the Cathedral’s masonry

  • Using a variety of dedicated stone cutting and lifting equipment

  • As part of the Stonemason team, acting as an occasional ambassador for Gloucester Cathedral and its heritage to promote the heritage craft of stonemasonry
