Why join?

Gloucester Cathedral has stood for over 1000 years, the mother church of Gloucester Diocese, and a landmark for miles around. We want to make sure it stands safe and visible for at least another 1000 years.

Image of Gloucester Cathedral in the sunshineThe Friends welcome people of all faiths and none, of all ages and backgrounds, to join us in supporting the Cathedral. Whether you appreciate the Cathedral for its architecture, music, history, worship or your own special memories, your membership allows us to make grants to keep all of this alive.

Our mission has always been to keep membership affordable for all, and an individual annual subscription is just £20 a year. Joint subscriptions and Life Memberships are also available, and we are enormously grateful to those who give annual donations in addition to their subscription.

Much of our giving has been enabled by members who have left us legacies. We thank them and their families for remembering us, and hope it gives them comfort to know that their loved ones cared about this place enough to support it after their death.

BenefitsImage of Gloucester Cathedral's historic library

From time to time we organise an event exclusively for New Friends. This usually includes a short tour of unusual parts of the Cathedral, followed by Evensong and refreshments, with an opportunity to meet members, including members of the Friends Council.

In addition to our Annual Report, we publish an informative newsletter twice a year, in the spring and autumn. This usually includes a couple of articles of topics related to the Cathedral, reports of past events, and the opportunity to book on forthcoming events.

Members often comment on how much they enjoy the social side of the Friends, and we regularly run events. Members always have the opportunity to book first.
