Summer Challenge

Friday 4 August – Sunday 10 September

There are loads of fun things to do at Gloucester Cathedral this summer! Take part in our brand-new Summer Challenge and see how many you can do.

Your activity sheet is a picnic basket and, just like a picnic, you can pick and choose which activities you would like to do. Each activity you complete will earn you a sticker. Once you have enough stickers to fill your picnic basket, you’ll get a prize!

Experience the history and architecture of this amazing building in a new way as you explore; lie on the floor, dress up as royalty or send a secret message!

This is the perfect activity for young (and young at heart!) visitors over the school summer holidays. The challenge can be collected from the Welcome Desk when you arrive. There is no charge to take part, but donations to the Cathedral are welcome. It will be available within normal Cathedral opening hours, which you can check here.

As part of the Summer Challenge, grown-ups are invited to enter our competition to win a luxury picnic hamper package worth over £300, including Tea on the Green for four from the Cathedral’s Monk’s Kitchen and more! Details about how to enter can be found on the back of the activity sheet.

  • Parking

We are sorry that due to limited space, parking in the Cathedral Close is restricted to pass holders only.

There are eight disabled parking spaces which are for use by Blue Badge holders on a first come first served basis.

However, there are several public car parks within easy walking distance of the Cathedral.

To find out more please download our parking guide or click here for up-to-date information.

  • Arriving by Public Transport

The Cathedral is located in Gloucester Town Centre, so the best way to get here is by public transport.

We are a 10-15 minute walk from both the train and bus stations. You can also use Gloucester’s Park and Ride.

  • Cycling

Cycling is a great way to get around Gloucester - the city is easy to explore on two wheels.

There are bike racks available on Cathedral Green. Route 41 of the National Cycle Network runs through the Cathedral grounds – find out more about the route here.
