Saturday 1 July - Friday 1 September
5 July 2023 marks 75 years of the NHS; when it was founded in 1948, it represented the first universal health system to be available to all, free at the point of delivery, and it now treats over a million people a day in England.
As part of the NHS75 celebrations, we’re delighted to be working in partnership with NHS Gloucestershire to host a special community art exhibition in the Cloister of the Cathedral. The exhibition will feature inspiring, moving and uplifting artwork that has been created as part of sessions designed to boost mental and physical wellbeing.
It will give an insight into the work of the Gloucestershire Creative Health Consortium’s partners, who work closely with the NHS to tackle a wide range of health issues, in a creative way! Many of the sessions that the partners deliver are funded by the NHS, and participants can access them through their GP, social prescribers or self-referral. The Gloucestershire Creative Health Consortium includes Artspace Cinderford, Mindsong, Art Shape, The Music Works, Artlift.
The installation will feature artwork by participants from some of the organisations forming part of the Consortium, as well as Adult Education in Gloucestershire participants.
There will also be a number of images on display from Gloucestershire Archives, which showcase moments in the NHS’ long and fascinating history.
The exhibition will be open within normal Cathedral opening hours and all are warmly welcome to come and see it. No tickets are required and admission is by voluntary donation to the Cathedral. Please note that between 17 July and 2 August, our opening hours will vary due to the Three Choirs Festival. Find out more here.
‘The Hand that Cared', a poignant new sculpture, will also be on display in the Cloister throughout this period. Click here to find out more.
