Light Eternal: Yesterday, Today, Forever

***Tickets for Light Eternal are now SOLD OUT***

This autumn, you’re invited to come and experience Gloucester Cathedral like never before. Light Eternal: Yesterday, Today, Forever will take visitors on a journey that delves into the Cathedral’s 1000-year-long history, examining its breathtaking architecture and stained glass, as well as its more recent life as a famous filming location. From scripture adorning the walls of the Cloister through to choral music sheets illuminating the Quire, there will be spectacles around every corner, accompanied by a beautiful bespoke soundtrack.

The installation has been created by the world-renowned projection art gallery, Luxmuralis, which is a collaborative team combining artists from different backgrounds and disciplines. It is a brand-new show, completely unique to Gloucester Cathedral, that promises to ignite the imaginations of visitors from the moment they step inside the building.

Entry to the event is by 15 minute time slots. First entry will be at 6.15pm and last entry will be at 8.45pm, with the event ending at 10pm. We ask that you book a timed entry slot in advance, but you are welcome to stay and enjoy the installation for as long as you like! To book your ticket, please click ‘Book Now’.

IMPORTANT VISITOR INFORMATION

Entry

Entry for those coming to see Light Eternal will be via the Cloister at the rear of the Cathedral. This is the entrance near to the historic Infirmary Arches, just off Pitt Street. Don’t worry if you don’t know where this is – there will be a team at the normal, main entrance to the Cathedral who will be able to direct you!

When you book your ticket(s), you will receive a confirmation email. Please check your ‘spam’ or ‘junk’ folder if you can’t see this in your inbox, or contact visits@gloucestercathedral.org.uk /01452 528095. Please bring your tickets with you, either printed out or on your smartphone or tablet, ready to show the team on your arrival.

Although we will do our best to welcome everyone as promptly as possible, please be aware that there may be queues to come in to the Cathedral, so we recommend dressing for the weather.

Event Times

The installation will run during the hours of darkness between 6.15pm and 10pm (last entry at 8.45pm). Please note that Light Eternal will not be available to see during our normal opening hours (10am-5pm Monday to Saturday and 12noon-5pm on Sunday).

Food and Drink

A wide variety of delicious refreshments will be available on Cathedral Green, including hot drinks, crepes and cakes, burgers, hot dogs and chips, hog roast, pizza and fish and chips.

Toilets

There will be toilet facilities, including disabled access facilities located in College Green. The internal Cathedral toilets will not be available during this event.

Access

There will be level access for the entirety of the Light Eternal installation. However, the floor can be uneven in places and the space will be dark, so please take extra care. The Bridge Chapel and Tribune Gallery are accessible by stairs only, so regrettably due to the nature of this medieval building, VIP tickets are not suitable for those who require level access. We apologise for any disappointment this may cause.

In order to provide the best possible experience whilst enjoying the light projections, much of the building will be cleared of chairs. However, there will be a limited number of seats for visitors. Please let a member of the team know if you have any additional needs during your visits.

Noise and flashing lights warning

Please note that there will be flashing lights throughout the whole of the Light Eternal installation, as well as loud music. Ear defenders will be available for those who wish to use them; please speak to a member of the Cathedral team when you arrive if you would like to borrow some.

Photography

Non-flash photography of the installation is permitted, but only for personal use. Please note that commercial photography is not permitted.
