Lantern Parade

Lantern Parade: Carol Concert with St Benedicts Singers

This year the Gloucester Lantern Parade returns, starring maritime-inspired magical lantern creations by local schools, artists and community groups, inspired by the 200th anniversary of the Gloucester Docks next year.

We begin with a carol concert sung by Gloucester Cathedrals’ St Benedict’s Singers, followed by a parade of the painted lanterns into Gloucester centre. It is a wonderful way to start the build-up to Christmas, as the parade ends with the Christmas light switch on in town.

The carol service begins at 4pm in the Cathedral and is followed by the Lantern Parade from 4.50pm from College Green. The procession will be illuminating the City Centre as it moves through the gate streets, around Kings Square and finishing at the Museum of Gloucester.

The parade will walk the following route displayed below. If you would like to line the route with a homemade lantern you are very welcome to. There are workshops available to learn how to make some! Click here for more infomation on the decorative lantern workshops provided by the Museum of Gloucester.

Please note that this is a free event open to the public; however, the carol service itself is likely to be full due to the schools attending. We suggest you join for the parade - if you do come along to the service, please just be aware it may be standing room only or it may be full.
