Gloucester Cathedral Organ Festival - Rescheduling FAQs

OVERVIEW

Why has the Festival been rescheduled?

Our new organ is a substantial and complex instrument. After careful consideration, we have concluded that we need to extend the period between the programmed completion of the organ and the celebrations to mark its arrival, to better allow the cathedral, our specialist organ partners, our own and our guest musicians to get to know the instrument and to allow time for it to run in, so that when you hear it, you will experience it at its very best.

Which events are affected?

Three events have been rescheduled:

  • Gala Concert – 13 June → 12 September 2026 (7pm)

  • Organ Recital (Wayne Marshall) – 14 June → 18 July 2026 (7pm)

  • Organ Masterclass (Wayne Marshall) – 15 June → 19 July 2026 (4.30pm, free event)

The Masterclass remains free and does not require booking.

Is anything still going ahead on schedule?

Yes. The Gloucestershire Cantata on 14 June will go ahead as planned.

All other Gloucester Cathedral events this summer are unaffected.

Will the same performers be involved?

Yes. The majority of performers remain unchanged, including the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Wayne Marshall OBE.

We have unfortunately been unable to retain organist Thomas Trotter for the rescheduled Gala Concert. A replacement organist of similar calibre is currently being confirmed and will be announced shortly.

The programmes for each event remain unchanged.
