Saturday 31 May, 11.30am
On 31 May at 11.30am, we are hosting an ecumenical service as part of the 'Pray for Gloucester' initiative. Since January, Christians from 50 congregations around the city have been walking the streets and praying for those who live and work here. The aim was to do this within a year; it has been completed in five months! To celebrate this, people will be prayer walking different routes to the cathedral, where we will gather to pray for God’s peace, justice, and blessing on all who live and work in Gloucester. The readings, sermon and music will be provided by people from different denominations, uniting us in worship.
"In the days between Ascension Day and Pentecost, we are powerfully reminded of the fire of God’s love that is poured into our hearts to fulfil the special calling that he has given to each and every one of us. With this in mind, we are delighted to invite Christian communities from across the city of Gloucester to join in a prayer walk from your churches to the Cathedral for worship and prayer together at 11.30am. We hope that this shared time of prayer together will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and give thanks for the prayer-walking initiative which was launched during this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and, in preparation for the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, to pray for our city and to discern where God may be calling us to make His Kingdom come." - Very Reverend Andrew Zihni, Dean of Gloucester
