Crafts that built the Cathedral: Gold Workshop

In this one day workshop you will learn the ancient craft of gold-working.

Lead by experienced gold worker, Kim Hardie, in the medieval surroundings of our learning hub, you'll cover the basics of gold-working, creating your own Carne Cross to take home with you.

- Health and safety briefing
- History of Goldwork and the Carne Cross
- Materials
- Demonstration
- Working through a hole
- Applying gold
- Couching in gold
- Decorating

There will be a lunch break so please bring a packed lunch.

Tea/Coffee and biscuits provided.

All materials provided.

No previous experience necessary

Over 18s only.

Due to the sharp nature of the needles and scissors please be aware that this workshop is only suitable for independent learners.

Please note this class involves small scale, close-up work.

At the end of the session you'll be able to take your goldwork home with you, or enter it as part of Gloucester Cathedrals summer exhibition - 'Crafts that Built the Cathedral'.
