Chorister Experience Day

Saturday 8 October, 11am-3.45pm

Do you know a child who loves music? We’re inviting them to come and find out more about what it’s like to sing in one of the most famous buildings in the country…

On Saturday 8 October, we’re delighted to be hosting a Cathedral Chorister Experience Day in partnership with The King's School for children in school years 3-6. This day is free to take part.

Children and their parents/guardians will be taken on a Discovery Tour of the Junior School as part of the Open Morning, before enjoying lunch together at the school. The children will then come over to the Cathedral at 1pm and practice some beautiful pieces of choral music under the expert eye of the Cathedral Music Department, before singing in Choral Evensong later that afternoon.

Singing has played a significant role at the Cathedral for hundreds of years, and we’re famous for our choral heritage and excellence. We feel passionately that music is for everyone, and are committed to providing singing opportunities for people of any age, background or ability. This afternoon is a unique opportunity for young people to see what it’s like to be part of one of the most renowned Cathedral choirs in the country, with the hope of inspiring our next generation of musicians.

12:30pm: Complimentary lunch at The King's School. Children and their parents/guardians are welcome.

1pm: Children head over to the Cathedral to take part in music activities in the Song School, led by the Cathedral's Music Team.

3pm: Participants sing at today's service of Choral Evensong in the Quire of Gloucester Cathedral.

Parents and guardians are warmly welcome to re-join us for Evensong, where you can see your child putting their newly learnt skills to the test! Evensong will finish at 3.45pm.

Spaces for the day are limited, so we ask that you please register in advance by clicking the ‘Book Now’ button to the right of this page. It is free to attend, but please note the afternoon is for those in school years 3-6 only.

This coincides with The King’s School’s Whole School Open Morning, also taking place on Saturday 8 October. Choristers attend the King’s School and benefit from an attractive Choral Scholarship towards fees, and the school is located next door to the Cathedral. Find out more about the Open Morning here.
