A Costume for Gloucester

16 September - 15 October

A Costume for Gloucester is a trailblazing project, which has been put together by Voices Gloucester in collaboration with Gloucester Cathedral. Designed by locally-based costumier Katie Taylor and forming part of Threads 2023, A Costume for Gloucester celebrates the city’s diverse people, eclectic history and fascinating stories. It has been created by over 100 community stitching groups, with each embroidered section telling something about the identity of its maker.

The beautiful costume will be on display in the Lady Chapel of the Cathedral between 16 September and 15 October.

There will also be a collection of clothing in the North Ambulatory, with all items donated by members of the local community. This will be accompanied by a photography exhibition in the Cloister, showing further examples of clothing. All items showcased and pictured have been included because they have a unique story to tell.

The Costume for Gloucester and accompanying exhibitions are free to come and see with no tickets required. They will be available to see within normal Cathedral opening hours, but please do check the What's On section of our website before you visit because any closures will be shown here.
