A chorister is a young member of a professional team that practices singing everyday after school plus takes part in musical performances. Choristers can join the choir from the age of six years old.
Our choristers are educated at the prestigious King’s School Gloucester, which is located next door to the Cathedral.
They benefit from an attractive Choral Scholarship towards fees, as well as potential means-tested bursaries from the school or from external organisations, such as The Ouseley Church Music Trust.
On leaving the choir, the chorister is able to apply for a music scholarship from the school until their education is completed.
In addition to developing musical and academic skills alongside leading musicians, they gain valuable experiences including musical education and participating in concerts, festivals (including the renowned Three Choirs Festival), and more.

Applications should preferably be made when the young person is in school years 2, 3, or 4.
Successful applicants are auditioned by Gloucester Cathedral's Director of Music.
It is usual to have an informal voice test, followed some months later by a formal Voice Trial.
Entrance as a chorister is dependent upon being accepted into King's School.
