Gloucester Cathedral and Willans LLP solicitors announce plans for Make A Will Fortnight 2022

Bookings are now being taken for this year’s Make A Will Fortnight, which will run between 17 and 28 October. During this period, the experienced team at Willans LLP solicitors are waiving their usual will-writing fee in return for a suggested donation to Gloucester Cathedral.

Gloucester Cathedral and Willans LLP solicitors are delighted to once again be working in partnership during Make A Will Fortnight, which this year will run between 17 and 28 October. For a suggested donation to Gloucester Cathedral of £100 for a single will or £150 for joint mirror wills, the Legal-500 rated wills, trusts & probate team at Willans LLP solicitors will work with individuals during this period to create a bespoke will, free of charge (some exclusions apply*). Individuals could also choose to give a donation to the Friends of Gloucester Cathedral, a separate charity set up wholly to support the Cathedral.

Gloucester Cathedral aims to ensure this special place stays in the best possible condition for generations to come; however, as a charity that receives no government funding, the Cathedral relies solely on the generosity of individuals, businesses, trusts and foundations to continue its expansive work. Gifts left in wills are a hugely important part of this and can go towards a wide variety of causes. Whether it’s supporting the Cathedral’s learning and participation work, helping to ensure its world-class training in heritage, conservation and music can endure, or enabling the Cathedral’s Christian mission at the heart of the community to continue, every legacy makes a lasting and meaningful difference. Legacies given to the Friends of Gloucester Cathedral can be granted to the Cathedral for a number of purposes, including helping to conserve and maintain the fabric of this remarkable building.

According to Law Society figures, just 60% of adults in this country have a will, yet it is a vital way to support loved ones after an individual dies. An up-to-date will ensures that assets and possessions are passed on to the right people, and it also provides an opportunity for individuals to continue to support the causes that mean the most to them. Based locally in Gloucestershire and with one of the largest and most experienced private client teams in the region, Willans LLP solicitors helps people to plan for their future at all stages of life.

During Make A Will Fortnight, the lawyers at Willans LLP solicitors will waive their usual will-writing fees, giving their time to help in raising funds for the Cathedral.

Laura Stone, one of the wills, trust and probate lawyers taking part in the initiative at Willans LLP solicitors, commented:

“Having a professionally drawn up will provides peace of mind that assets within your estate can pass to your chosen beneficiaries upon your death. Without a will, these decisions will be left to the law, which may result in your estate not passing in accordance with your wishes.

“By creating your will with us under Gloucester Cathedral’s will scheme, we can ensure that your affairs are in order, relieving the pressure from your loved ones after your death, with your donation supporting the upkeep of one of the most iconic and beautiful buildings in Gloucestershire.”

The Interim Dean of Gloucester, Canon Dr Andrew Braddock, said:

“We are very grateful to Willans for partnering with Gloucester Cathedral in Make a Will Fortnight. This is an important opportunity to plan for our own futures and the futures of those we love.

“The ways in which the Cathedral has benefited greatly from legacies over the years is just one example of how making provision for the people and causes we care about can make a lasting difference.”

Individuals who are interested in writing a will during Make A Will Fortnight are asked to send an email to wills@willans.co.uk to find out more and to book an appointment in advance.

*The scheme is for the preparation of a bespoke but straightforward will, for example, a will that does not require any inheritance tax planning advice nor the use of complex trusts. If you think the advice needed in the preparation of your will and the will itself might not fall within the scheme, please discuss this when you make your appointment with the lawyer.
