Playing Your Part

Help the Cathedral to reach its potential

Project Pilgrim is a unique opportunity to make Gloucester Cathedral the best it can be for everyone. We need your support for it to be successful and there are plenty of ways you can help:

There are lots of new and exciting volunteering opportunities as Project Pilgrim gets underway:

  • Cathedral Green Welcomers: Welcome and the provision of an excellent visitor experience has been identified as a priority and it is essential to the success of Project Pilgrim that this begins before visitors step inside the building
  • Work in Progress Volunteers: A vital strand of the project will be to keep visitors (and other key stakeholders) informed about the work as it progresses, to interpret the processes and to manage visitor’s expectations of their visit
  • Education and Outreach Volunteers: To assist with the outreach programme to schools, community groups and other hard- to-reach-audiences
  • Events Volunteers: To assist with the Activity Plan
  • ‘Harry Potter’ Tour Guides: To deliver guided tours of the Cloisters sharing the behind-the-scenes story of the filming of the Warner Brothers ‘Harry Potter’ films as well as the monastic and architectural history of the site
  • Discovery Guides: Based in the newly interpreted gallery space (this will be a role similar to that of a National Trust ‘Room Guide’ in that they will not be conducting formal tours but will be available to answer questions and engage visitors with the information in the space)
  • Fundraising Volunteers: To assist with fundraising activities and to act as an ambassador for Project Pilgrim and the Cathedral, particularly in support of the acquisition of match funding for the Project
