OutreachMaking music accessible for all

The Music Department are continually developing musical opportunities for the benefit of the wider community, providing a creative approach to the use of the Cathedral for children and community groups alike, making music accessible to all.  This includes:

Youth music at Gloucester Cathedral

The existence of the Cathedral Junior Choir and the Cathedral Youth Choir provide musical and choral singing tuition for young people from the age of 6 - 19. These two choirs, alongside the Cathedral Choir which has 20 boy choristers and 20 girl choristers, currently provide an opportunity for over 100 young people to join together every week for singing.

Gloucester Cathedral Junior Voices Project

Three Gloucestershire schools per term benefit from the Cathedral’s Junior Voices Project. Four visits to each of the three selected schools are arranged to help develop singing and encourage pupils and teachers to enjoy the benefits of group music-making.

The project culminates at the end of each term when the school choirs perform a concert in the Cathedral to an audience of proud families, relations, school staff and friends.  Anyone is welcome to attend.  Admission to the concert is free with a retiring collection for the Music Department’s outreach work.

We are very grateful to the generous donors who make this project such a success and look forward to continuing this valuable work in Gloucestershire schools.

We are always keen to hear from schools that may be interested in participating in the Junior Voices Project, especially those with whom we have not engaged before.  Please get in touch with the Music Department to make an enquiry:   choirs@gloucestercathedral.org.uk
