Tuesday 1st December 2020 Monk's Kitchen & Gift Shop - Closed

We are sorry to let you know that The Monk’s kitchen will close from Wednesday 4 November at 3pm until further notice, we are hoping to re-open on Wednesday 2 December.

The Gift Shop will be closed from Thursday 5 November and hopefully will re-open on Wednesday 2 December.

We would like to thank everyone for their custom over the last four months and hope to see you all again soon!

Thursday’s 10.30am - 12noon

Starting 5 November - 10 December

This 6 week free online course is aimed at beginner level learners and will be led by community artist and tutor Jo Teague.

  • Do you doodle lots but not sure how to move onto drawing?
  • Do you want to improve your drawing?

As part of our Art for Wellbeing #CreativeCathedral programme, this course takes you through a series of structured steps to build up your confidence in drawing. Each week will begin with some fun drawing games and activities followed by a structured drawing session that will take you step by step through creating a drawing. The sessions will give you a chance to draw, to learn with others and time to relax. All the activities will help support your wellbeing and you can repeat them easily on your own.

Led by community artist and tutor Jo Teague, aimed at beginner level learners

Jo Teague has been teaching arts and crafts to a wide variety of local communities for the last 10 years, she creates and runs workshops that build skills and foundations in drawing that will grow your confidence in your own creative ability. Her enthusiasm is infectious and she will have you drawing in no time!

Messiaen La Nativité du Seigneur Sunday 13 December 6.00pm Jonathan Hope Assistant Director of Music, Gloucester Cathedral Join us for Jonathan Hope’s annual performance of Messiaen’s kaleidoscopic 9-movement organ cycle for Christmas. One of the most talented organists of his generation, Jonathan is the principal organist for the Cathedral services and is deputy conductor of the Cathedral Choir. He is Accompanist to the Gloucester Choral Society, Musical Director of the Saint Cecilia Singers and has a busy international concert career. Admission to Organ Concerts/Recitals is free with a retiring collection in aid of Cathedral Music.

A Christmas Wonder – Saint Cecilia Singers’ Christmas Live-Stream

Evoking the wonder of Christmas, the Saint Cecilia Singers will perform their annual Christmas concert online. Watch at home and join in the traditional carols next to a cosy fire and a glass of Christmas spirit!

This year, this will be an online-only event, streamed on this page (below) and the Cathedral's Facebook page. You can also watch the ‘Watch Party’ of the stream from the Saint Cecilia Singers’ own Facebook page.

This year’s SCS Christmas Concert will be in aid of Gloucester Cathedral’s Beacon of Hope Appeal.

Saturday 5 December to Wednesday 7 January inclusive

Come and follow our Christmas Family Trail around the Cathedral, learn about the Christmas story and meet the characters by finding the miniature displays. Finish the trail with a walk through the festive scaffold tunnel in the north transept to reach the much loved, life sized knitted Knitivity, now with it's very own stable. Carols will be played or sung during opening hours which will also include some evenings. (Evenings will be ticketed and pre-bookable).

The Cathedral will be splendidly decorated with festive flower arrangements and lights so gather your family bubble together and get the best ever selfie this Christmas. Remember to share it with us on social media, just tag us - we can't wait to see them.

We will be delighted to welcome you to the Sunday morning Eucharist. It will look and feel different, but that is for good reason as we seek to protect all in the Cathedral during the present health circumstances. You can read about all the measures in place via the website link below. You can attend in person or visit our website to join lives streaming of the service. All worship will be offered in accordance with government and church health and safety guidance. If you wish to attend, please send an email to prayers@gloucestercathedral.org.uk to indicate your attendance (before or after the service) stating clearly your name/s and contact details in order to comply with the track and trace process. These records need to be kept for 21 days and will then be destroyed. Thank you.
