Gloucester Cathedral’s Digital Advent Calendar 2020

From Your Cathedral To You

Christmas looks a little different this year, with the pandemic meaning that many of us have had to adjust the ways in which we might usually celebrate. But above all else, it will still be a time for togetherness and a time for rejoicing as we mark the birth of Jesus Christ, so at Gloucester Cathedral, we decided we needed to find a way of bringing your Cathedral to you.

That’s why we have created a digital Advent calendar, which you can take part in from your own home. Every day, throughout the period of 1-25 December, a short video will be released across our social media platforms, our website and our YouTube channel. Each video will be led by a different individual, who is in some way connected to the Christian mission of Gloucester Cathedral. This includes everyone from our choirs and our clergy through to our community partners and other local charities. In short, we hope these videos will showcase some of the many people who make Gloucester Cathedral the beacon of hope that it is.

The videos will all offer a festive activity for you to take part in, ranging from arts and crafts to spiritual reflections to outdoor challenges, which we hope will bring you a little bit of ‘Comfort and Joy’ in line with the message from the Church of England this year.

We would love to see how you respond to each activity, so please do share photos of your creations with us. You can share them on social media, using the hashtags #FromYourCathedralToYou and #ComfortAndJoy, or alternatively email them to

Happy Christmas, from your Cathedral to you.
