Welcome

Welcome from Dean Stephen

Dean Stephen LakeThere is something special about Gloucester Cathedral.

I would say that wouldn’t I, but I believe it to be true. Perhaps it is in the dramatic yet elegant architecture of this building, perhaps it is in the majestic music that takes place here, perhaps it is in the countless prayers that have been said down the ages, and perhaps it is in the simple truth that people have felt something of God here down the centuries. Perhaps it is also in the fact this this is still true today and that people come here to pray, to wonder, to be quiet, to sing, to find refreshment and to simply be more whole.

For those of us who are blessed by being here every day, we know that this privilege is to be enjoyed through loving service and seeking to make a difference. This is true of worshippers, volunteers, staff members, all those who are dedicated to proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ.

Our vision is to seek to be ‘in tune with heaven and in touch with daily life’. This is an inclusive aspiration that sets the glory of a particular place in God’s vision for human flourishing. We try to be down to earth with hearts raised to heaven so that the common good can be shared and the message of Jesus proclaimed afresh.

May you be blessed by coming to Gloucester Cathedral as we are blessed by your visit, by your participation, and by your prayers.

The Very Reverend Stephen Lake
Dean of Gloucester
