A chance to get close to the heart of Latin literature with this day on Latin poetry. We will look at the principles behind Latin metre, at different verse-forms, and enjoy readings from a variety of authors.

Enjoy the sound of Latin poetry, with a study of different Latin verse forms and poets.

What did Latin used to sound like?

Latin enthusiast George Sharpley has trained opera singers to perform in the ancient language. He played an example to BBC Radio 4, World at One's,  Martha Kearney, saying he thought it was "pretty close" to how it used to sound. Have a listen here: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04w3cks
