Cleopatra and the Augustan poets

Cleopatra and the Augustan poets with George Sharpley

Saturday 14 April 10.00am - 4.30pm

Cleopatra was vilified as a foreign seductress, waylaying not one but two prominent leaders of Rome. On the surface Augustan poets like Virgil and Horace reflect the misgivings of their contemporaries. But on closer inspection what else do we find? Did the ‘Helen’ of her time really take her own life? This course will study the original Latin.
