'The Choir' Screening - Cathedral Chorister Fundraiser

'The Choir' Screening - Cathedral Chorister Fundraiser

Friday 29 September 6.30pm

A special Film Night of the BBC mini-series ‘The Choir’ will be held in the atmospheric Chapter House of Gloucester Cathedral on Fridday 29 September. During the 4 ½ hour screening, viewers will be served a fish and chip supper, and there will be a cash bar throughout. All proceeds from the evening will go towards Gloucester Cathedral Choir Fund.

Filmed in Gloucester Cathedral in 1995, ‘The Choir’ mini-series is an adaptation of the novel by Joanna Trollope. A tale of money, scandal and intrigue set in the fictional town of Aldminster, it tells how a threat to the centuries-old Cathedral Choir School creates a rift in the rustic community and threatens to tear it apart. Starring James Fox and Jane Asher, the mini-series was a huge hit in the 90s when it was first broadcast and was also seen on PBS in America.

Gloucester Cathedral Chapter member Canon Celia Thomson said “Fans of Joanna Trollope and fans of Gloucester Cathedral alike will find plenty to entertain them in this slice of 90s nostalgia . I remember how excited we all were to see the mini-series the first time round and it will be great fun to see it again and do a bit of Cathedral-spotting. It will be interesting to be reminded what has changed in the last 20 years.”

The five-part drama will be shown back-to-back box-set style and will run from 6.30pm to 11pm on Friday 29 September.

Tickets are available from the Parents and Friends of Gloucester Cathedral Choir. Email gloschoristers@gmail.com or call 07713 888242.
