Evening Organ Recital - James Anderson-Besant

Organ Scholar, Gloucester Cathedral

James is Organ Scholar at Gloucester during his gap year. He plays for the Cathedral Choir once a week and in the absence of either Adrian or Jonathan, and also accompanies the new Girl Choristers and the Junior Choir. James assists the Singing Development Leader, Nia Llewelyn Jones, in the Cathedral’s programme of outreach in local primary schools, and is also accompanist to the Wycliffe Choral Society. After this year he will take up the Organ Scholarship at St John’s College, Cambridge, where he will read Music.

he Organ: Gloucester Cathedral’s mighty organ was originally constructed in 1666 by Thomas Harris. It is the only complete 17th century Cathedral organ case surviving in this country, and the pipes displayed on the front of the case still speak to this day.
