Make a Will Fortnight

Light RaysIs your will up-to-date?

A time comes in all our lives when we begin to think about securing the future of those close to us and the things that we care about most by making a will.

Having an up-to-date, professionally written will is the best way to make sure that your family, friends and the causes you support are provided for in the way you wish after your death. Dying without a will can create serious problems for those you leave behind.

In 2012 and 2014 the Cathedral worked in partnership with Willans LLP Solicitors to offer a free will writing service. Willans kindly agreed to waive their usual costs for making a basic will, and instead invited those taking part to consider making a donation to support the Cathedral.

To date almost 100 people have benefitted from the scheme and due to the level of demand we will be holding another Make a Will Fortnight this October.

By having your will written professionally your estate will be divided exactly as you intend. This can offer great peace of mind to you and your loved ones, and avoid any legal complications after your death.

From 12th - 23rd October we are running a ‘Make a Will’ scheme which will enable you to make or update a basic will
using Willans LLP solicitors. A suggested donation for this service will support the work of Gloucester Cathedral, as
Willans are kindly waiving their usual fee.

Willans’ Legal 500-rated wills, probate & trusts department act for generations of families. Its six-strong team of experienced lawyers handle all aspects of wills, trusts and inheritance tax planning for clients at many different stages of life.

Ruth Baker Associate solicitor Ruth Baker, a senior member of the team who is leading the Gloucester Cathedral ‘Make a will fortnight’ campaign, is a member of The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), experts who are, by definition, the most experienced and senior practitioners in the field of trusts and estates. She is also a part of the Law Society Private Client Section and an associate member of Solicitors for the Elderly.

She said she is delighted to once again be supporting the Cathedral in its fundraising initiative and she encourages people to contact her to make, or update, a will.

“Your will tells everyone what should happen to your money, possessions and property after you die, and if you do not have one, these decisions will be left to the court to decide – who it may be passed on to may not be in line with your wishes.

“It’s easy and stress-free to make or update a will through us and by doing so, you’ll be supporting the upkeep of one of the most iconic buildings in Gloucestershire.”

Willans LLP is one of the oldest law firms in Cheltenham. Established in the 1940s, it offers clients a full range of legal services for individuals, businesses and charities.
