Please be aware that on Sundays there is a morning service in the Cathedral at 10.15am. If you wish, you are welcome to join in with the service while you are here, or you can still look around the Cloisters, East End and other areas (maybe even visit The Monk's Kitchen, open at 11.00am, you never know what you might find there!!) until the service is finished at around 11.30am, when you will be able to get your case file stamped.

Lady Chapel exterior – specialist tour with apprentice stonemason

Friday 18 and Friday 25 August - 3.30pm to 5.00pm

A unique and special opportunity to join a Cathedral guide on a tour of the scaffolding here at the east end of the building. The Cathedral stone masons are undertaking a project to restore the beautiful stonework of the Medieval Lady Chapel and this tour will take you behind the scenes of their work. Those with a head for heights will get unique views of the Cathedral’s roof line and the chance to get up close to stained glass, architectural features and ancient stonework that otherwise could only be admired from way below on the ground.

Meet at the West End of the Nave (outside the gift shop)

Tickets are £15 available to buy via the Cathedral Office from Tuesday 15 August (opening hours 9.00am-5.00pm) in person, (cash only) or call 01452 229813 to reserve a space and pay in cash on the day of the tour.

Maximum 10 people per tour, over 18’s only as tours are at height

Tours have proven popular and spaces will fill up quickly, so to avoid being disappointed do keep checking our website to see when further dates are added.

This summer we have joined up with the Gloucestershire Library Service to support The Reading Agency Summer Reading Challenge!

It’s easy to take part - sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge at your local library and pick up your heritage Case File. Visit the listed partner venues (as well as reading your books!) and get a stamp to be entered in to a fabulous prize draw to win a unique goody bag.

When you visit the Cathedral it is free to all visitors so to earn your Case File stamp here all you need to do is find one of the Animal Agents lurking in the Cathedral. These may be drawings of characters in the books you read or they may be the Cathedral’s own animals (look closely at the stained glass, stone and wood carving!) any animal you spot qualifies you to get your Case File stamped by our shop or welcome team.
