Tours & Visits

LibraryAccess

The Library can only be reached by use of a stone spiral staircase (38 steps), leaving by the same route. If you wish to use our collections for research purposes but would be unable to follow this route, please contact the Cathedral Archivist who will be happy to discuss how alternative access arrangements may be made.

Visiting for research

We welcome all researchers who have a need to consult our printed works, manuscripts or archives. All visits will require an appointment to be made in advance as staff resources are very limited and it may be necessary for the required items to be brought to the library from another location. Further details about research visits can be found here.

Tours for organised groups

Private tours can be organised for members of local history societies and other bodies or organizations with an interest in the Cathedral Library. The tours will generally last about one hour and will be led by the Cathedral Archivist. A charge is made for these visits.

The maximum group size is 20 persons and all tour members will be required to observe the normal library regulations including no eating or drinking (including bottled water); no handling of items without permission; and no flash photography.

If you wish to plan a visit please first contact the Cathedral Archivist to discuss possible dates and subjects of special interest. You will then be asked to make a booking with the Cathedral Visits Officer.

Public Tours

There will be a number of public tours for interested individuals during the summer months. These tours will be led by Library volunteers and last up to one hour.  The maximum group size is 20 persons and all tour members will be required to observe the normal library regulations as above.

Tickets may be purchased in advance or on the day (subject to availability).
