Adopt a Book

The Cathedral Library houses over 6000 books and manuscripts, dating from 985 to the present day.

There are many books in our collection that require care and attention to ensure that they remain available for researchers now and in the future, and we can work with you to match your interests to our books.  These may be books such as:

  • Our fourth edition folio Shakespeare’s complete works
  • Marcus Meibomius on Antique Music
  • John Selden on the British naval supremacy
  • Oliver Goldsmith on natural history

For the full list, please download our Adopt a Book Brochure

A donation of as little as £25 can help us to make protective enclosures for fragile books, larger donations will help us to repair books that are not able to be handled without causing damage.

For

  • £25 – your donation will be acknowledged on our online donors register.
  • £100 – you will be acknowledged and also receive a limited edition gift based on the Library collection.
  • Full cost of the repair to a book – you can choose the book that you support, and will also be invited to attend our annual donors tour where you will see the books repaired during that year and speak to the archivist, conservators and books binders who have worked on these items during the year.  In addition a name of your choice will be included as part of the record of the repair that will form part of the repaired book.

For more information, please contact the Archivist at archivist@gloucestercathedral.org.uk or telephone 01452 229818.
